GOING POSITIVE
I always wanted to look like the slim girls on TV even though I knew that it was impossible.I worried about my weight and tried every new diet I read about online.I tried no-fat,low-fat,5:2,only bananas,no bananas—I almost went bananas,too.
Then I read an article that said instead of asking “Am I fat?” I should be asking “Am I fit?” I had no idea a letter could make such a difference! Once I started thinking about fitness rather than weight,things began to change.Instead of saying “I want to lose three kilos”,I would say “I want to run two kilometres in eight minutes” or “I want to be able to do 30 push-ups”.Rather than cutting out the foods I enjoyed,I added healthy foods to my meals.I could still have a burger now and then,but I would add a salad or an apple.
Finally,I stopped comparing myself with actresses and models and looking for things that were wrong with my face or body.Instead,I made a list of the things I liked about myself.By being positive about myself and my body,I became both happier and healthier.

词汇没有所谓高低级之分,只有准确不准确之别。高考的满分范文和高分作文都在使用那些大部分中国学生高中就知道的词汇。千万不要一厢情愿地把一个本来平实准确的词,换成你觉得所谓的高级词 (就像说到“离开家乡到大城市发展”中的“离开”就该用“leave”,而不用貌似更高级但其实毫无准确性可言的“abandon”)。切记:最符合语境的才是最准确的,最准确的才是最给力的。

Listening Tips
1.注意细节
Think about what you are listening for before you listen: numbers, dates, times, addresses, activities, people or places, reasons, etc.
2.巧辨连读
听力中有很多连读,如果不知道很容易听不清或者听错,所谓连读,指的是词与词之间交界的两个音会经常连在一起,发音时好像连成一个较长的单词。听力中常见的连读形式:
(1)辅元连读:在一个句子或短语中,前一个单词以辅音结尾,后一个单词以元音开头时,需要将辅音和元音在一起连读。如:if I, for a walk, on a winter’s day。

1.在主从复合句中,对某一名词或代词起修饰作用的从句叫定语从句。被修饰的名词或代词叫先行词,引导定语从句的词叫关系词。
2.关系词分为关系代词(that, which, who, whom, whose, as等)和关系副词(when, where, why等)两类。
关系代词的基本用法
1.who指人,在定语从句中可以充当主语、宾语或表语。

THE NIGHT THE EARTH DIDN’T SLEEP
Strange things were happening in the countryside of northeastern Hebei.For several days,the water in the village wells rose and fell,rose and fell.There were deep cracks that appeared in the well walls.At least one well had some smelly gas coming out of it.Chickens and even pigs were too nervous to eat,and dogs refused to go inside buildings.Mice ran out of the fields looking for places to hide,and fish jumped out of the water.At about 3:00 am on 28 July 1976,bright lights were seen in the sky outside the city of Tangshan and loud noises were heard.But the city’s one million people were asleep as usual that night.

地震前常见征兆
1.动物表现异常,例如:大量的蛇爬出洞来长距离迁移;家禽家畜不吃不喝,狂叫不止,不进窝圈;大量的老鼠白天出洞,不畏追赶;动物园里的动物萎靡不振,卧地不起等。
2.地下水发生异常,例如:震区的枯井突然有了水,井水的水位突然大幅度上升或下降,井水由苦变甜、由甜变苦等。

【句式解读】 too...to...意为“太……而不能……”,too修饰形容词或副词,to后接动词原形。
【用法总结】
(1)在“too...to...”结构中有时出现可数名词单数,而该结构的形式通常为“too+adj.+a/an+可数名词单数”。
①The sentence is too difficult for me to translate.
=The sentence is difficult enough for me to translate.
这个句子太难我翻译不了。
②Your brother is too young a boy to be fit for the work.
=Your brother is so young a boy that he is not fit for the work.
你弟弟太小还不能胜任这项工作。
(2)too...to...结构表示肯定意义的情况
当too之后跟表示主语的态度、情感、心情或倾向的词,如glad,eager,anxious,happy,ready,nervous,pleased等时。
当“too...to...”结构中含有not或never等否定词时。
③He is just too eager to know the result of the exam.
他只是太想知道考试成绩。
④You will be never too careful to go across the street.
过马路时,你再小心也不为过。
