1. At the beginning, I was afraid to try writing a poem. 起初，我不敢尝试写诗。

at the beginning起初，开始，相当于at first。at the beginning of意为“在……的开始”，后跟名词或代词。

At the beginning of the class, Mr. Lin sang a song. 在这节课的开始，林先生唱了一首歌。

2. so… that …如此……以至……，引导结果状语从句，that从句中常加情态动词。例如：

The TV set costs so much that I can’t buy it. 

这台电视机花这么多钱以至于我买不起。

另外，so…that…还可以引导目的状语从句，“以便”。例如：

He got up so early so that he could catch the early bus. 他很早起床以便赶早班车。

so…that引导结果状语从句时有时可以用 “too…to…”及“enough”来改写。例如：

He is so young that he can’t go to work. 

He is too young to go to work.

The boy is so strong that he can lift the heavy box.

The boy is strong enough to life the heavy box.
